Robert Wetzler
Robert P. Wetzler earned his Bachelor of Arts from Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania in 1954. At the Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1958, he received his Masters. At the University of Minnesota, Robert accomplished extensive graduate studies in Music Theory and Composition and also continued to hone his skills on organ and piano and choral singing.
Robert served as organist for both Thiel College's chapel and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville, Pennsylvania for about one year. Then, he was Chapel Organist for Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary for three years before he assumed the position there of Choirmaster. Also, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, he served as Choirmaster. Later, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was Choirmaster as well as Director of Music. From 1960 to 1963, in addition to his choral work, Robert was Assistant to the Music Editor for Augsburg Publishing House. In 1960 as well, Robert became President and Director of Publications for A.M.S.I. (Art Masters Studios Inc.) in Minneapolis and retired in 2001.
Listed in the 1954 Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, three years later, Robert received the New Testament Prize for his exceptional New Testament studies. He was also listed in the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1968. In 1991, Robert was named among the Distinguished Alumnus at Thiel College. Robert held the Composer in Residence position at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and for each consecutive year since 1967, he has been honored to receive the composer Award from ASCAP.
